Cup O’Joe bring Christmas cheer

Critically acclaimed County Armagh bluegrass band Cup O’Joe are set to put a folksy twist on some Christmas classics with their upcoming EP ‘Christmas Kin’.

Cup O’Joe are a family trio situated a few miles outside of Markethill. Benjamin, Reuben and Tabitha Agnew have been making waves with their music both at home and abroad for almost two decades  . Middle child Reuben spoke to underscore media to look back on the band’s journey and to give fans a glimpse of what lies ahead.

“We grew up playing music together from an early age. In 2013 we released our first album ‘Rough Terrain’ as soon as we had the ability to record music together, we did so. We started and continue to record music together because we want people to hear the music, we enjoy writing and creating.”

Since its creation, Cup O’Joe’s music has racked up thousands of listens on Spotify as well as earning them a place in the finals of the Radio 2 Young Folk awards. The band’s growing success has given them the opportunity to tour extensively.

“We have primarily toured around the UK and Ireland and have seen some amazing cites not too far from home. We really enjoyed seeing parts of Europe such as Germany and Belgium while on tour and I would put these trips round Europe as some of my favourite so far.”

In the past week the band announced their upcoming Christmas EP on social media, accompanied with some suitably festive cover art.

“In the upcoming Christmas EP we play some of our favourite Christmas songs and carols! We approached these well-known Christmas songs with our own musical twists, some have a swingy feel, some a folky feel and some are straight forward bluegrass!”

‘Christmas Kin’ is available on all streaming platforms from the 12th November with physical copies available from www.cupojoemusic.com.
