Drivers claim government action is needed to fix potholes

Northern Ireland is notorious for potholes – from flooded roads to unsafe turns, drivers report needing to pay up to £70 to fix broken springs or popped tyres.

Those who have been affected by potholes may be spending hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds each year to repair their suspensions, lower car bodies and tyres. To improve driver safety, the government must act now to fix these potholes, before they cause serious damage to vehicles or potentially cause a car crash.

This month, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins promised an additional £7.85 million to fund this cause, giving drivers hope that there will be improvements to the roads soon. However, in December 2025 there was an original £30 million package aimed to improve road safety. Yet drivers are still complaining about potholes despite multiple investments.
