Lively atmosphere in the streets of Bangor, as trick or treaters are out and about on Halloween Night

At first Halloween began like any other typical Thursday afternoon. Where the weather was mostly mild and bright, people were away working and everywhere was deserted with little signs of life. You wouldn’t think that it was Halloween just by looking outside.

However, there was an instant change of atmosphere as night time had finally fell. People began to emerge from their houses to put out their light up pumpkins with different faces carved into them. Some had even got out traditional Turnips along with them. The orange glow of their faces lighting the streets. Then out came the Trick or Treaters, they all dressed in a variety of costumes, from horror movie villains, like Freddy Kruger, Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers. Some dressed in classic typical costumes like ghosts or devils, others a lot less common such as video game and TV show characters. Crowds of them flooded the streets, knocking on the doors of each house, one by one in a straight line, hoping to get something good. Leaving the buildings with bags and buckets full of sweets, chocolates, lollies. As well as some having a laugh by giving them toothbrushes instead.

The moon was full, the wind was blowing hard, and the temperature was beginning to drop as it signalled the beginning of the end for autumn and the early beginnings of winter. As the night progressed children began to head back to their homes, those that were still out and about were older kids and young adults coming out of parties, clearly drunken after periods of bar hoping.

As Halloween night came to an end, the town was dead silent, like the clique setting of a horror movie. Eventually the cold and the wind blew out the candles within the pumpkins, in time before the sun would rise.
