Growing Filipino-owned businesses in Belfast, see a new change for the local community.

In the past 20+ years, Filipinos who arrive in Northern Ireland to live and work make their start as Nurses. 

Over time, Filipinos started opening their own businesses, serving food and drink, as well as trade goods, bringing a sense of the Philippines here in the country; it’s home away from home.

With these businesses in Belfast, such as Kubo, Manong’s, Gaga Boba, Sukee Café, and Kalye located in Bangor – there is one that stands out as being one of the oldest in Belfast, MANILA: The Filipino Store (or simply the Manila Store).

I talk to two of the shop’s workers, about the store’s importance to the Filipino community.
