West Strand carpark in Portrush becomes charged

Visitors to the popular seaside town of Portrush this summer will now face further costs to their trip.

The council has decided to make the central West Strand carpark private, meaning users will be required to pay a charge of 50 pence per hour.

However, businesses in the area have complained that they were not properly involved in the making of this decision.

Ellie Wallace, a local worker in the area, said: “It sort of came and it was just: ‘This is happening’. Rather than, ‘What’s your thoughts and opinions and is there any way we could make this easier for you’.”

“I think it’s going to be a shock to many”, she said.
