The investment will pay staff to open and close the marketplace on the expanded opening days, as well as covering the cost of cleaning services on these days.
Newry Variety Market has been hit hard by the covid pandemic, footfall has dropped and many market traders have not returned.
This has in turn had a larger impact on the traders who have returned, as empty stalls discourages customers from returning.
