Teachers feel abandoned by Government as kids return to school

As a large number of teachers remain unvaccinated, many feel unsafe as pupils and teachers across Northern Ireland have returned to classroom teaching.

The rate of COVID infection is three to four times higher among primary and secondary school teachers than that of the general population. These are the latest figures released by the NASUWT.

Peter Weir, the education minister for Northern Ireland, had previously said: “School teachers in Northern Ireland should be given priority to receive the Covid-19 vaccination.”

Without a priority vaccine, many teachers have not received their vaccination because they do not fall into the higher age brackets.

After an extremely disruptive and unprecedented year of teaching and learning alike, many teachers feel left behind and let down by the Northern Irish government.
